To Claude and Beyond

There has been a huge amount of chatter on LinkedIn et cetera about Claude and what Claude can do and how much better it is than others. I had primarily been using Gemini LLM and I had created a lot with it (local n8n workflows, developing a python script for form filling, adding Gemini CLI to my terminal to work with VS code) and many deep research projects. I had Gemini through my business standard subscription for workspace so that was the natural place to start.

I had decided to give Claude a go.

Claude’s UI it's just so much easier to use than Gemini

The first thing that anthropic do really well is the UI of Claude, it feels so much easier to organise what you're doing and what you want to achieve. Please, Gemini just give us folders!

• Connections (MCPs) are easier to complete with just a clicks, skills to give much more context are a little more sophisticated than Gemini. I could connect VS code in a short time to work together on a Python script.
• Skills a lot more extensive than in Gemini from a basic user perspective. Gemini CLI incorporates similar functionality, but that feels really for pro users who are more familiar working around software development.
• Code is one that I have primarily worked with through the connection with VS code so not sure of its usability on app or web. good time it all in one place though unlike Gemini or ChatGPT.

It’s presentation is a little more human

The words that come out of the machine seem a little bit more like a human than either that Gemini or ChatGPT. I have also found that any reports that I tried to do through Claude have been just a bit better in terms of formatting and length, Gemini can get a bit wordy.

Gemini still feels better for deep research

Perhaps it's because Gemini is Google, but their ability to search the Internet for sources is more complete than the others. so this is something I'd still look to Gemini to potentially do.

The crunch on limits is real for Claude

I never once had any problems with limits using Gemini. I'm now regularly hitting limits on the pro plan from Anthropic and I'm probably only using it for an hour a day at max. So I’m limited in what I can do with Claude. An advantage though is hopefully it will concentrate the mind on what should really be built.
